The Beginnings of a Serial Killer
- David Berkowitz was born the son Betty Broder while she was having an affair with Jason Klienman (while married to Anthony Falco).
- At less than a week old he was placed for adoption and adopted by Nathan and Pearl Berkowitz and given the name David Richard Berkowitz.
- His childhood is recorded as having been somewhat troubled. It's noted he had an infatuation with larceny and pyromania. Neighbors of the Berkowitz family observed him as spoiled and difficult.
- His adoptive mother, Pearl Berkowitz died, and he did not care for his new mother.
- In 1971, age 18, Berkowitz joined the army and served until 1974 when he was honorably discharged. Upon being discharged he sought out his birth mother, Betty Broder.
- When he found his mother, she shared the truth of his birth, and once hearing this Berkowitz became greatly disturbed and lost his sense of identity.
- Berkowitz claims his first attacks began on Christmas Eve of 1975 when he stabbed two young women with a hunting knife.
